The Church of Saint Mary Women’s Ministry will have the opportunity to involve itself in direct service to Tulsa’s homeless and disadvantaged community on Thursday, April 11th, by volunteering with Night Light Tulsa.
This organization, begun in 2013, strives to meet the physical, emotional, and social needs of 250-300 homeless neighbors every Thursday night under the bridge at Maybelle and Brady. We hope to make our guests feel welcomed, important, and supported. Importantly, we will be assigned to experienced Volunteers who will ensure that we are comfortable in our various assignments. An Orientation session at 6:30 p.m. is required. After setting up tables, cooking stations, and other equipment, volunteers serve grilled hamburgers, wash feet, and visit with our neighbors on the street in order to erase the barriers that separate us.
We will carpool from the Church of Saint Mary at 5:30, park in the close-by residential area, and arrive to help set up at 6:15 p.m. After the required Orientation at 6:30, we begin to serve our guests at 7:00 at our assigned stations. Our work ends at 9:00 p.m., and clean-up is from 9:00 to 9:30.

It may be chilly in mid-April, so we will have to dress accordingly.
We hope that this “adventure in Faith” will result in many of us becoming regular volunteers with this inspiring organization. It is truly a Hospitality Ministry, and an extension of our Parish Outreach Ministry, in that we’re working to love and serve people we might not otherwise meet.
Stepping outside our comfort zones, we can be assured that God walks with us!
Meet under the bridge to build a bridge.
