Become a Lector, Usher, or Greeter

gift-bearers-wide

The Church of Saint Mary needs you!

Can you smile? Do you enjoy reading aloud? Is helping during Mass one of your gifts? At every Sunday Mass we rely on a host of parishioners willing to give of their time and talent. Our liturgical ministries are full of volunteers but there’s room for you. Please prayerfully consider signing up to participate in one of these liturgical ministries: Greeters, Lectors, Servers, and Ushers.

What are the duties of a Lector?

Review the readings before you come to church. A good resource is bible.usccb.org.

When you arrive at the Church of Saint Mary, check in on the iPad in the Corner.

When the time comes for your reading, walk to the center of the foot of the sanctuary, make a small bow, walk to the ambo, and begin the reading.

If the Gospel is next and the deacon is bringing the Book of Gospels from the altar to the ambo, be sure to put the Lectionary on the storage shelf in the ambo.

What are the duties of an Usher?

Experienced ushers will help novice ushers. This guide highlights the duties that ushers perform.

When you arrive at the Church of Saint Mary, check in on the iPad in the Corner.

Help seat everyone, especially those who may have limited mobility.

Be on the lookout for a small group – perhaps a family – to bring the gifts to the altar during the Offertory. Ask the group before Mass begins.

Take up the collection during the Offertory. Secure the collection.

Help the gift bearers bring the bread, wine, and book of intentions to the altar.

What are the duties of a Greeter?
