Parishioner Profiles: Yadi Boykin

Church of Saint Mary parishioners are well known for their enthusiastic response to God’s gifts. Yadi Boykin is remarkable – even among our parishioners. Yadi is settling into a new position at Bishop Kelley High School.

When did you join the Church of Saint Mary?

I joined the Church of Saint Mary in 2012.

What are some of your favorite things to do at church?

In the beginning, my favorite was working in the cafeteria serving the kids lunch because I got to meet the kids and mess with my own kids when the came through the line. When [my children graduated] I got more involved in the church. I love to cook so Culinary Angels is my baby. For the first few years I was a member who brought food, then I was asked to head it up.

Helping others. Feeding others. Making them feed good and comfortable. That’s me.

What led you here to this position as Bishop Kelley?

I was in a transition from my career at Verizon for 22 years. My youngest was really sick. When she was in surgery, I saw an email about a position here. I thought, “I’d be good at that.” I applied, and through God’s graces, I got it. I love it here. It’s perfect because my oldest is a senior and I get to see her every day before she leaves me for college.

What is your position?

I am the Philanthropy Events Coordinator. Everyone knows about the top two BK projects: the Auction and Trivia Night. I’m responsible for them. We’re doing Donor Dinners and we’re also doing little hospitality events such as Alumni Awards, a new event this year I’ll be in charge of hosting and planning those events. I’m trying to get my feet wet dipping into other things. I’m trying to boost the experience of our alumni or sponsors or guests who come visit Bishop Kelley.

I’m also the PTO president here. It correlates together because I can take my work responsibilities and fold it over into PTO.
