Reconciliation

2024 Spring Reawaken 37

Receiving God’s Forgiveness

The sacrament of reconciliation is the opportunity to ask God’s forgiveness for our sins and to experience His forgiving love firsthand. It also provides God an opportunity to gift us with grace to overcome sin in our lives.

The Church recommends the sacrament of reconciliation a minimum of once per year, but prefers we receive the sacrament much more frequently. That’s why the Church of Saint Mary offers confession times throughout each week.

Confession Times

In addition to the times listed below, confessions are available by appointment. Confessionals are located next to the chapel.

Wednesday

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Saturday

4:00 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.

Sunday

9:15 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.

“Confession is an act of honesty and courage – an act of entrusting ourselves, beyond sin, to the mercy of a loving and forgiving God.”

Pope Saint John Paul II

FAQs for Reconciliation

Reconciliation can be intimidating for those who don’t frequent the sacrament. Our goal is to make sure you, and all our parishioners, experience the full beauty of reconciliation, so we compiled this list of questions and answers to help.

How often should I go to confession?

The Church recommends the sacrament of reconciliation a minimum of once per year, but prefers we receive the sacrament much more frequently.

What if I haven’t been to confession in years or decades?

The Church and the priest would LOVE for you to receive the sacrament, regardless of how long it has been. Just tell the priest how many years you think it’s been since your last confession, and he will guide you through the process.

Is face-to-face confession the only form of confession?

No, we offer confession behind the screen as well.

Do I really need to confess ALL my sins?

You should confess all the sins you recognize in yourself that you can remember. This is why it is important to perform an examination of conscience before confession. You definitely should confess any mortal sins, but also whatever venial sins come to mind.

What if I’m embarrassed to tell a priest my sins?

The priest is only concerned with forgiving your sins. The priests are less concerned with what your sins are and more with helping you grow in your relationship to God.
